Additional funding for primary school sport is making a positive impact. There has been an increase in the number of sports clubs and involvement in competitions with local school.

PE and Sport Premium

At St Giles, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

What is the Sport Premium?

The government is providing extra funding to schools and academies. The aim of this funding is to improve the Physical Education (PE) and Sports programs offered by primary schools and is provided jointly by various governmental departments including Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport. Funding for schools is calculated by the number of primary-aged pupils between the ages of 5 and 11.

All schools and/or academies with seventeen or more primary-aged pupils receive a lump sum of £16,000 plus a premium of £10 per pupil. Schools are free to pool resources to ensure the greatest impact. The Sports Premium is ‘ring fenced’ which means it can only be spent specifically on PE and sport within the school and must be used to increase the breadth of PE and sport provision and increase participation in PE and sport.

Purpose of the funding

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have certain freedoms to choose how they do this.

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.
